Episode 4 pending…
Sep 25th
The raw audio for episode four has been recorded! I just need to find some time and motivation to get it edited and pretty…
The Blasphenomenology Podcast, Episode 3: The Triumphant return! With Butter!
Jun 19th
Episode 3 of the podcast has, believe it or not, been posted, apparently without incident. Jo and Ro and I discuss graven images, hypocritical christians, a lack of semantic clarity, and random free-floating hostility.
You can find a link to the RSS feed on the right side of this page, or just click here.
If that’s too many steps for you, here’s a direct link to the actual audio file
You can also get the iTunes feed here, and folks are encouraged to subscribe, as that way it will just download automatically. The feed usually takes a day or two to update, so be patient.
Episode 3 in the works!
Jun 16th
We’ll be getting together tonight to hopefully record the next episode of our slow-rolling podcast.
I wanted to post the heads up as a notice to our nonexistent general public, but mostly to embarrass us into doing it. Since it’s now been announced to the Teh Intarbergs at large it will therefore shame us if it remains undone. We are a fairly shameless lot, though, so…
Anyway, stay tuned for fresh atheistic goodness, hot off the mic and into your sexy aural cavities. We know you are addicted to our dulcet tones, all one (or maybe two) of you. We love you too.
Not that way, though. At least not if there’s no money in it for us.
Interstitial outrage
Apr 11th
Things have been awful quiet ’round theseyere godless parts. That’s mostly my fault with a smattering of their fault thrown in. I’ve annoyed Criss enough so that he’s in a snit and no longer speaking to me*; Rosanne is being abused by students and children alike and loves it, though it makes her yawny.
I am in the process of a move from Los Angeles to New York and my mental state is disintegrating apace.
So, since I am facing a shivering mountain of work with a first-thing-in-the-morning deadline, I decided that one good way to avoid doing it would be to post a couple of interesting links I’ve been enraged by or made thoughtful by in the past day or so. Enjoy!
The next podcast will come. The schedule is simply iffy right now. But there certainly isnt a dearth of things to talk about, and we do intend to talk about them until you just can’t take it anymore. Criss is looking forward to hate mail very much. I would really hate to disappoint him.
A really interesting Metafilter thread about something called “Possibilism,” or being a possibilian.
From Jo’s Dictionary of Irascible Explanations:
Possibilian: Someone who is such an incredible wuss that they dont even have the balls to call themselves an agnostic because they dont want to be considered that damn spineless. This is meta-cowardice on an almost infinite level. A small part of me (a very small part of me) actually admires how far they’re going to avoid having to actually make up their minds about anything.
An explanation of Russell’s Teapot via Wikipedia, which is very interesting. It is linked the Metafilter discussion above, but I think it’s interesting enough to put it in your face.
From CNN, the National Enquirer of main stream media (No, Fox News is the inbred cousin of the Weekly World News, and you know it):
The Vatican, after a typically numb period of time during which they aggressively blamed everyone else for the fact that like 98.7% of their priests fuck little kids and the hierarchy did everything in its power to cover it up, seems to have gotten an inkling that people find this attitude frankly unacceptable and released a statement admitting that okay, maybe we do have some small modicum of responsibility here, but can’t we let bygones be bygones? Can’t we all just get along?
Unfortunately, the ink on the statement was barely dry before a newly revealed pedophilitastic coverup dating from 1985 sprang up, totally harshing their mellow. Poor guys just can’t catch a break, can they? Well, not if Darth Benedict has anything to do with it, apparently. It’s bad enough when your priests are insatiable babydiddlers, but when the Man who Would Be Pope is busy running around behind them covering things up, youve got some ’splainin to do, Lucy. It certainly doesnt help when you’ve got all these whiny parishoners stepping forward explaining – in grisly detail – their own very special experiences with trusted parish priests. I can see what those bishops in Connecticut are so worried about.
And to wrap things up in fine style, here’s the story of Elham Assi, a 13-year-old girl from Shueba who bled to death after being tied down and raped by her 23-year-old husband. Apparently her husband felt anxious to prove his manhood. So anxious was he, in fact, to prove to all the world that he was a man that tearing her vaginal canal wasn’t enough for him. After she was brought back from the hospital, he did it again. Anally. What a stud!
In Yemen, “proving your manhood” is evidently done by raping children to death, a practice which is vigorously approved of and defended by the religious authorities, who are the reason legislation banning such marriages has not been passed. She was traded like a cow and slaughtered like a pig. Actually, it wasn’t nearly as clean as being slaughtered like a pig. I know which death I’d choose. At least the butcher has the decency to make it quick and as painless as possible.
Just another shining example of religious influence working its magic on the human population. I can see why folks are so reluctant to give it up. Praise Allah.
Enjoy your evening, folks. And as Douglas Adams would say, keep banging those rocks together.
*This is a dirty, unabashed lie.
Unfortunate but hardly unexpected delay…
Mar 24th
One of the illustrious cohosts of Blasphenomenology is feeling a bit pants tonight, and has plans tomorrow, so we’ll be postponing the recording of Episode 3 at least a couple more days. Sorry for the delays, once again, but they seem to be becoming the standard, and hey, have to start traditions somewhere.
Podcast news!
Mar 24th
Blasphenomenology! The increasingly sporadic podcast by three bitter atheists (well, two bitter and one relatively well adjusted atheists) who can’t seem to get their shit together.
Ro and Jo and I had a good bullshit/planning sessions last night, which was partially recorded, just for fun. Currently hoping to record tonight, but some last second personal issues may be interfering. Hopefully tonight, if not, soon. This episode is going to be a relatively heavy one by the way, and a possible trigger issue for some people, because we’re talking about child abuse in a religious context. So we definitely want to make sure we have our acts together for it. More news as it comes.
Also, we may be starting a new thing on the web site. Along with the regular podcast feed, we’re planning on occasionally releasing some audio shorts, basically clips of our conversations while we’re planning for the episodes, some of which can get pretty interesting. Look for the first of those in the next couple of weeks.
One way or another, I’ll be back on in a few hours to let everyone know what’s happening. Cheers!
Episode 2 now available!
Feb 21st
Episode two of the podcast – dealing with Pat Robertson’s Haiti proclamations, the pope’s anti-African crusade, and a variety of other nonsense – has been posted and published! You can get it form the RSS feed link to the right, or right here, or if you prefer, here’s a direct link to the audio file.
The iTunes store link should update in a day or so, and you can download the specific episode there, or subscribe.
Thanks for putting up with the delays, and thanks for listening! Show notes will go up tomorrow or the day after, and I’m bloody tired of dealing with it by now.
Episode 2 recorded!
Feb 20th
After numerous delays caused by all sorts of issues in the various hosts respective lives, episode two of the podcast – covering a mildly schizophrenic range of topics – has been recorded. It’s going to take a bit of editing and polishing, which I hope I can do later today, and should be posted by by Sunday, or Monday at the latest!
More delays
Feb 11th
I know this is getting to sound like a broken record, but the recording of episode 2 of the podcast is once again delayed.
I promise this is not podfade. But people’s real life responsibilities of course come first, and this seems to have just become an incredibly hectic time. It may be that we’ll have to consider going back to recording only once per month, as much as I don’t want to do that.
I do hope to record soon. More information as it arises, and thanks for your patience!
Slight delay in recording…
Feb 3rd
Late work days and illness prevented recording tonight. We’ll try again in the next day or two, and report accordingly here.
